I can teach the rudiments and theory of music up to Grade VIII, or for Music GCSE and A-level examinations. Some examination boards such as the ABRSM require a pass level of Grade V theory before instrumental examinations can be taken at Grade VI or above.
Aural training is often required for musical examinations. It is a useful skill to have, since it helps you to both read and transcribe music upon hearing it. It also helps with solfege by enabling you to recognise and sing or play musical notation correctly.
You may learn one or more forms of musical notation. Students of popular music may choose tablature and chord diagrams, whereas students of more formal classical music will learn standard musical notation. Learning to read musical notation, together with aural training enables you to play music directly as you read it, just as you might read written language.
Lesson fees in my teaching studio are £28 per hour or £15 per half hour for young children. Lessons can be weekly, fortnightly, or by some other arrangement. Your first lesson is always free and without obligation. I am happy for you to bring along a friend or two to learn as a small group whereby individual discounts can be offered. I also offer discounts for groups of several lessons reserved and paid for in advance. Home visits are by arrangement, and Skype lessons are available for those who wish to study in their own home and avoid the time and costs associated with travel.
